What Is Ultrasonic Watch Cleaning and When Is It Needed?

Ultrasonic cleaning uses sound waves in a liquid to lift dirt and oils from hard-to-reach parts of a watch. It works especially well between metal bracelet links, where a brush cannot reach.
How does it work?
The device creates tiny bubbles in a cleaning fluid. These loosen dirt from surfaces, removing it without the hard scrubbing that risks scratches.
Can a whole watch go in?
Not always. A watch whose seal is not confirmed should not go in the device, because fluid getting inside could damage the movement. Bracelets are often removed and cleaned separately. Leather straps are not suitable.
Can I do it at home?
It is not advised for a valuable watch. Without knowing the condition of the gaskets, cleaning can be risky. A soft dry cloth is usually enough at home.
The Guven Watches service team performs ultrasonic cleaning as part of watch care, and can advise the right method for your watch.
